Time on the road: 0845am – Home to Roma
We left home at 845am finally, we were supposed to be on the road by 6am… Never works with kids LOL… After 1: 15 mins we stopped at Gatton for a toilet break. This rest area has plenty of parking, easy to get off and on the highway, toilets and a shady area with picnic tables for a easy snack or lunch break (or if it was us at the time we should have left Breaky)…
We decided to try out the new Toowoomba range crossing, yes it is a toll road and we all hate that but google maps reckon it should cut about 30mins off our trip.. I’m taking that…….
It is my turn to drive this leg and I’m excited to travel on the new road… the only issue is they did not sign post it real well and before I knew it I was on my way to Chinchilla… Apparently the navigator didn’t think I needed help in this section so wasn’t navigating… I thought the driver never got lost that is why you have a front seat guide!!!!! Obviously not, so my response is “you don’t want to head on a mundane highway when we can start our adventure here”…. It took us an extra 45 mins to get to Dalby….
We stopped to top up fuel in Dalby after travelling 262.6km and ended up putting in 46.57L at 145.9 costing $67.95. We had lunch in the park by the highway, the kids ran around in the playground and we continued on.
WE MADE IT TO THE OUTBACK – CAUSE THE SIGN SAID SO hahaha
Our next stop was Dulacca for fuel again having travelled another 165km we put in 30.2L @ 140.9 cost $42.55, lovely little servo with friendly staff..
We ended up staying the night in a freedom camp Bungeworogorai Creek west of Roma (9.8km). This is lovely little spot that has bins, but you need to be totally self-sufficient. It was quiet considering it was right next to the highway, clean, flat, with mobile coverage, who can ask for more… The only issue with this camp was the flies. They could carry you away.
Time arrived: 5pm – KM travelled: 541
