OUTBACK QLD – DAY 2

20 Apr 2024

Roma to Barcaldine

Time started: 0730am

We got up at 5am this morning and went for a walk… breaky and hit the road for another big day of driving.

First stop was Amby for a quick photo and a walk down the main street, nice quite little town, kangaroos in the main street… Kids were amazed.

Onto Morven for another fuel stop, 256km travelled needed 46.84L @154.9 = $72.56, as we were driving out of town, we found a railway display, the kids were out of the car like a lightning bolt and on the train playing.

We made it to Tambo for lunch and found a beautiful park called Tambo Lake Park. I was on the end of the main street and an easy walk to check out the town. We loved the old buildings and took time to stroll the main street. Our only let down was Tambo Teddies was closed….

We moved onto Blackall, OMG there is the most brilliant sign outside of Blackall, we quickly pulled the van over and took some snaps. We ventured into Blackall and found the Black Stump.. apparently and further inland in Beyond the black stump so we continued Beyond the black stump…

We consulted with Wikicamps to find out stop over for the night and found a Freedom Camp Lloyd Jones Weir 14kms south of Barcaldine with a short well-maintained dirt road. It was quiet, clean, had toilets and Telstra Mobile Reception. All in all, a great place to stay.

Time Arrived: 6pm
